December 8, 1926 - June 17, 2016
It is with great sadness that we had to say good-bye to a very special man in our lives. Our dad, Dennis Streed, passed away on June 17 at the age of 89 after a lengthy and courageous battle with Parkinsons and diabetes. Throughout this difficult time he never once complained. He kept his head held high and dealt with every difficulty that came his way.
Dad was born on December 8, 1926 in Milan, Minnesota to Helen and Fritz Streed. After serving in the navy during WWII, he attended Laramie State University where he received his teaching degree in history. He taught high school in Wyoming for three years. He then moved to Newberg, Oregon with his loving wife and kids in 1955, where he taught a wide variety of history courses for 34 years. Dad also taught scuba diving classes for many years with his two sons and they loved to dive in other countries and explore interesting places.
Dad loved to travel and had so much fun exploring the world with our mom, Elaine. They visited over 40 countries together and had many wonderful adventures during their many travels. Since he was such a history buff, he often knew as much, if not more, than the various travel guides they listened to! He also loved to read and work outdoors on their farm.
He is survived by his loving wife Elaine, two sons Roman of Lake Oswego, Oregon, Gwain of Silver Lake, Oregon and daughter Rowena Shafer of Ashland, Oregon. Dennis also had eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren who he adored.
