Here's Alice's bio, sent by email June 28, 2008
Twelve (12) years of schooling in Newberg; 5 years at Linfield College; a total of 17 years accompanied by Leonard "Bill" Dressel. Graduated with a BA and MEd. Editor of Linfield Review (college newspaper) my junior year. Taught high school for four years--three at Myrtle Point, OR (sophomores and one period of Juniors my third year there). Herbert Armstrong (sound familiar to 'native' Newbergites??) was Superintendent at Myrtle Point my first year of teaching!! One year of teaching in a six year "high school" [7th grade through 12]. Taught 7th grade English and Freshman English plus the journalism course where I was advisor for both the newspaper and annual! Oh, the name of the school was McKenzie River Schools, Blue River, OR.
Was in a car/train accident June 29, 1966 on the "Dayton cutoff" going back home to Newberg after attending summer school at Linfield.. Received a skull puncture on left side of back of head, broken collar bone and numerous lacerations.
Worked 26 years at headquarters for Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), retiring February 29, 1995.
Joined the Fraternal Order of Eagles, East Portland Auxiliary #3256 in October of 1972. Still a member. President of the Auxiliary 1978-79. Secretary of the Auxiliary going on 20 years and still secretary. Editor of the lodge paper 14 years and won several national awards. Mrs. Paul would be very proud of me!!
